V.I.P (Very Important People) The V.I.P. Club meets for one morning every half term and long school holiday. 40–60 children aged 5–11 come for a noisy, active and creative one and a half hours. After registering we all go into church for a very noisy V.I.P. shout, followed by a short quiz, play or story on a Bible theme. Then the children choose from between 9 or 10 different activities, moving onto a new one when each is completed. On the grass behind the church there is always football with full-sized goals, and perhaps skittles and parachute games. In the hall there are at least six craft activities taking place: paint, playdough, beads, cards and junk modelling. All provided with drinks and biscuits. The morning ends back in church as prizes are handed out. The highlights of last year were a very skilful penalty shoot-out, some very fast racing on the Scalextric track, and lots of very sticky, messy biscuits (you would not believe now many chocolate chips you can fit on one iced digestive biscuit!) We have met most holidays since the year 2000, so slowly we have got to know the children and they have got to know us. Some who are now too old to take part, regularly come back as young leaders and we are really grateful for their help. To come costs nothing, and there is no need to pre-book. But parents do need to bring their children to register on the morning. The dates for each holiday are not booked far in advance, so please check the website or with the Vicar for details. | |
